2004 North Texas Chapter Meetings

January 19, 2004

Meeting: The holidays are over so our meeting this month deals with “What worked….What didn’t work”. Bring your experiences and your ideas to share.

 

February 16, 2004

Meeting: Our child’s belongings - a lot of people think that we are “morbid” for keeping our child’s belongings and it keeps us from “getting over it”. Come share your story and one of those belongings if you would like with the group.

 

March 15, 2004

Meeting: Reinvestment—discussion on how we can reinvest our energies after losing a child/grandchild/sibling. We will hear from others some distance away from their loss on what they have done or are doing.

 

 

April 19, 2004

Meeting: “Things said and unsaid” A little discussed problem for many bereaved parents is the state of their relationship with their child in the days or hours preceding the child’s death. This problem is not unique to those of us who have had either our only child or all our children die.

Myth-Conceptions…Bereaved parents almost always come across myths or conceptions upon the loss of a child/grandchild/sibling. If you have encountered such bring your story to share with the group.

This will be a sharing session...Those chapter members who attended the Bereaved Parents of the USA National Gathering will review the different workshops and what they learned in Charleston SC this year.

August 16, 2004

Judy Hominck, a butterfly gardener, will share the meaning of butterflies and ideas on planting a butterfly garden. She presented at the National Bereaved Parent Gathering in Dallas in 2001.

September 20, 2004

Our annual balloon release will be held. We will come together to write our special notes to our child/children and attach to balloons and then release them from the "Ivy Garden" at the First Methodist Church. A sharing session will commence after the release.

October 18 , 2004

We will welcome Dr Steve Tryling back to speak to us on “How Grief Impacts Our Relationships With Others.” This topic will encompass marriage, parental, sibling, friends and extended family relationships.

November 15 , 2004

Surviving the Holiday Season, Dr Kathy Smallwood will join us and help us as we learn to cope with the loss of our loved ones during the holiday season.

December 12, 2004

Join the Bereaved Parents of North Texas ...to light candles in honor of our children for our annual Candle Light Memorial Service which coincides with the Worldwide Candle Lighting in Memory of All Children.

December 20, 2004

Will be a sharing session for anyone who is in need of some help getting through the holidays.
