April 20, 2009 Presented by Dave & Sue Alexander, “How Men and Women Mourn the Death of a Child” “He said! She said! But they don’t say the same thing!” The conventional wisdom is that men and women grieve differently. Perhaps. But there are men who grieve “like a woman” and women who grieve “like a man.” What’s all that about? Are they doing it wrong? This presentation explores these issues and brings some recent research to the discussion.
May 18, 2009 “Meet Me; Meet My Child,” attendees will share something about who they are themselves as persons as well as to share something about their children.
June 14, 2009 “Father’s Day,” a documentary by Frank Ferry in honor of Father’s Day, after which the discussion will concentrate on the grief of fathers and how they have learned to cope with their children’s deaths.
July 20, 2009 “Butterfly Days” attendees will be asked to share any positive, happy occurrences that have happened lately or feelings they’ve recently noticed that indicate ways in which they are making progress in their journeys through grief. Each attendee will write down five good things in their lives right now; zeroing in on positive things in their lives that can help to rebuild productive lives.
August 17, 2009 “Dreams and Unusual Happenings,” many bereaved parents have had dreams of their children since their deaths. Others may have experienced hearing a special song, seeing butterflies or a bird or a beautiful flower, finding pennies in unusual places that they’ve associated as signs from their children. Bring your stories to share with others.
September 21, 2009 “Annual Balloon Release”...join us as we write messages and attach to our balloon to release into the evening sky to make their way to our children.
October 19, 2009 “Ask It Basket,” attendees will have a chance to write down comments or questions that will lead to discussion among the group. Sometimes it is hard to ask questions or make comments this makes it easier to say what is on your mind.
