Four
of our members who attended and hosted the national
BP/USA 2001 Gathering in Dallas last summer joined
the Ottman's at their home in mid-June to burn the
letters which attendees at the Gathering last year
wrote to their deceased children. This simple ceremony
was borrowed from American Indians who believed
that as the smoke rises, the words are carried to
those who abide in the spirit world. The ashes were
scattered in the Ottman's butterfly garden. Incidentally,
several butterflies were witness to the ceremony
as well---one was a large tiger swallowtail.
Shirley
Ottman made a posterboard of snapshots taken during
the burning to take to the national BP/USA 2002
Gathering in New Orleans the last weekend in June.
